RCR to Field Team for Tim George Jr. in 2010 ARCA RE/MAX Series
WELCOME, N.C. (December 2, 2009)
Richard Childress Racing has signed Tim George Jr. as a developmental driver to compete full time in the 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX.
RCR will field the No. 31 Chevrolet Impala for George in the 20-race ARCA Racing Series season, which competes at 17 different tracks. The season begins February 6 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla., and concludes October 9 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway. A crew chief for the team will be named at a later date.
"The goal of RCR's driver development program is to enhance and strengthen the skills needed to compete at NASCAR's top levels," said Mike Dillon, vice president of competition for Richard Childress Racing who also oversees the driver development program. "A second season in the ARCA Racing Series will allow Tim to further develop his driving skills in a stock car since he only has one year of experience. We'll put together a strong crew chief and team that will allow Tim the opportunity to develop his talents to the fullest."
George, 28, finished 11th in the 2009 ARCA Racing Series point standings in his rookie season, with a best finish of fifth at New Jersey after starting second to last. He began his auto racing career in 2005 in the Skip Barber R/T Formula Dodge Regional Race Series. George stepped up to the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series in 2007, earning five top-10 finishes in just eight starts.
He competed in the Grand-Am Rolex GT Series in 2008, where he finished fourth overall, won at New Jersey, took third in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and earned a handful of other podium finishes. George was named the 2008 Rolex Series MESCO "Building for the Future" Rookie of the Year and Bob Akin Award. The New York native came back in 2009 to finish second at the Rolex 24, and will return in 2010 looking for a win.
George made his RCR debut in the November 13 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, where he qualified 26th and finished 29th after getting caught up in an accident on lap 132.
"I am honored by the opportunity to work with and learn from Richard Childress, Mike Dillon and everyone at RCR. I'm going to absorb as much as possible in 2010 from the wealth of knowledge that exists there," said George. "My No. 1 goal is to get a lot better at setting up these cars. Another season in the ARCA Racing Series, where I have competed on most of the tracks, will make this easier to focus on. We are in the process of finding the right crew chief that will help me learn the most and I'm looking forward to testing with my new team at Daytona later this month."
George has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Miami, College of Arts & Sciences, where he also has double minors in economics and history.
