Jimmy Phelps Continues Streak of Strong Finishes
Scores Back-to-Back Super DIRTcar Series Wins

Jimmy PhelpsMOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 29, 2010) - Phelps entered last Wednesday's Jreck Subs 100 excited to race at Mohawk International Raceway for the first time. He left the track with his second consecutive Super DIRTcar Series win. Phelps' debut at the Akwesasne,N.Y., track, was also the first time the Super DIRTcar Series has raced at Mohawk International Raceway since 1995.

Phelps struggled early at the track on Wednesday, as the Heinke-Baldwin Racing (HBR) team worked to find the correct balance on the car. Phelps qualified the No. 98H Wave Energy Drink/Mohawk Northeast/Troyer car 18th quickest during time trials, with a speed of 79.130 mph (18.198 seconds).

Regardless of the slow start, Phelps finished his heat race in second position, which allowed him to redraw the seventh-place starting spot for the feature event. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native was forced to be patient during the feature event, as he waited for the track to come to him. On lap 50, he was still racing in the seventh position.

"We weren't very good coming off the truck," explained Phelps. "We were unsure as we tried to find the balance on the car. We didn't do very well in time trials, but we were fair in the heat race. The guys kept making some changes and by the mid-way point of the main event, we had everything right."

Once the car was where he needed it to be, Phelps began to march to the front. He moved into the top-five on lap 55 and raced his way to second by lap 62. The veteran driver stayed right with the leader, following the lap 70 caution. He took advantage of a mistake made by Sheppard, and moved into first on lap 90.

"We were right with the leader for about 15 laps," Phelps said. "He finally made a mistake, and we got up underneath him. Once we got the lead, we were able to stretch out a little bit. We got some lapped cars between us and second place and cruised on to the win."

Following the race, Phelps dedicated the win to the mother of HBR co-owner Al Heinke, who passed away earlier in the week. This win marked Phelps seventh career Super DIRTcar Series win and the second win for Heinke-Baldwin Racing.

Phelps filled the rest of his weekend with racing, finishing fourth on Thursday at Utica-Rome Speedway and third on Friday at Brewerton Speedway in his family-owner Phelps Motorsports entry. His Saturday night race at Fulton Speedway was rained out, but he returned to action Sunday at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, notching his ninth win of the season.

Phelps currently sits third in the Super DIRTcar Series point standings, just 42 points behind leader Billy Decker. He will return to Super DIRTcar Series action on Sunday, July 4, at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.

About Heinke-Baldwin Racing
