SMP Motorsports Announces Manpower to Horsepower Program
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 14, 2010) - President of SMP Motorsports Sue Roberson is proud to announce the development of the program Manpower to Horsepower, which is a unique program to give back to disabled veterans, including those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), by providing a ride-along program that is handicapped accessible. The program utilizes custom-made late model cars that allow for a handicapped passenger to ride shotgun around dirt tracks. The goal for 2010 is to provide this experience at 48 events throughout Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
"As I have watched many Richard Petty drive alongs, there have been numerous times that I have watched children in wheelchairs or that were handicapped that could not get in the car but could only watch," Roberson explained. "It broke my heart. I have been very fortunate in my life. It really made me want to give back everything I've been given. It's never been done before. No one ever thought you could do it, so we are developing it."
In order to reach their goal, Manpower to Horsepower is looking for business partners to support a program that honors our service men and women. The Manpower to Horsepower program provides the opportunity of primary sponsorship of seven cars, including four dirt track late model race cars and three dirt track late model ride-along cars, to their partners. The four race cars are scheduled to compete in the season premiere at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. In addition, SMP Motorsports will compete in 48 events throughout Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
As part of the partner program, amenities and access at the Dirt Track at Charlotte can be available through the program. Partners will also have the opportunity to utilize a penthouse floor condo in the first turn at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) and Speedway Club Privileges that include access to the Speedway Club at CMS, both may be used for entertaining clients, friends and relatives.
