Happy Hour Proves Kimmel will be a Contender
Kimmel to Start 23rd in Friday's Talladega ARCA 250
TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 23, 2010) - Talladega Superspeedway is known for high speeds, high banks and drafting. While Thursday's ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards saw high speeds, there was no drafting during the three-hour morning practice session.
Frank Kimmel and his Ansell/Menards team struggled to find speed during Thursday's practice and qualifying sessions. Kimmel ended the three-hour morning practice session 19th on the speed charts circling the 2.66-mile track in 51.926 seconds (184.416 mph).
After a four hour intermission, the ARCA Racing Series returned to the track for qualifying. Kimmel qualified his No. 44 Ford Fusion in the 23rd position with a time of 52.384 seconds (182.804 mph). "I know starting position doesn't mean a thing here at Talladega, but I was hoping to have a better race car then that." said crew chief, Bill Kimmel Jr.
Friday morning the No. 44 Ford Fusion returned to the track for the final happy hour practice session. Kimmel jumped to 3rd on the speed chart with a time of 50.608 seconds (189.182 mph.), improving the spirits of the Ansell/Menards team.
"Practice went really well this morning," commented Frank Kimmel. "It is very encouraging, and our car was very fast. We were able to stay with the fastest cars on the track and draft right with them. We were passing a few cars; we are in for a really good race."
The Talladega ARCA 250 is scheduled to take the green flag Friday evening at 4:00 p.m. CDT with live flag to flag coverage on SPEED. ARCAracing.com will also feature live streaming audio coverage along with timing and scoring.
