Frank Kimmel II Determined to Defend Championship at Salem Speedway
Hopes to Return to Championship Form in 2010
SALEM, Ind. (April 22, 2010) - Frank Kimmel II will begin the 2010 Super Street Stock Series season Saturday set on defending his 2009 championship at Salem Speedway.
Kimmel II, third generation driver and son of the 9-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel, will begin racing this weekend at the Casey's General Store Spring Speed Fest presented by Salem True Value Hardware.
"It's great to be back to Salem this coming Saturday hopefully to start off the season like we did last year," said Kimmel II. "My dad and the crew worked really hard all winter on Dolly (car's name) and we think we can be faster than ever this year. Last year we were fortunate to have luck go our way at the end of the season and we ended up winning the championship."
In the 2009 Season, Kimmel II posted four feature wins, seven top-five finishes and five pole awards. In nine races, the young Kimmel never finished below seventh place. His success during the season led the 19-year-old driver to win the 2009 Rookie of the Year award in the Lucas Oil Super Stocks and the Super Stock Championship. He is the first driver to win a consecutive Street Stock and Super Stock Championship.
"We are confident that the car is better prepared for this upcoming season and with a little more luck we can win some races and another championship," stated Kimmel II. "With quite a few new sponsors this season a solid run each week is what we are searching for."
This season, the No. 68 will be supported by several new sponsors: Prodigy General Contractors, McKenzie Synthetic Inc. and Eddie Gilstrap Motors. The returning sponsors for the car include:Jim French Builder, Newlons Grocery, Clarksville Schwinn and Fitness, Marshall Auto Parts, Dawn Durbin D.D.S.,Mike's Paint and Body, Mallory Ignition, Ford Racing and Lucas Oil.
When not in the driver's seat, Kimmel II attends the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering. He recently signed as an instructor at the Richard Petty Driving School.
