Career Best Qualifying Effort for Tim George Jr.
George Starts Fourth for the Talladega ARCA 250
TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 22, 2010)-Five races into the 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards season, Tim George Jr. heads to the Talladega Superspeedway for 250-miles of restrictor plate racing this weekend.
Forty-one teams, including George's No. 31 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Development Chevrolet Impala, shook down cars at the 2.66-mile superspeedway for the Talladega ARCA 250 on April 24 in the first practice session of the two-day event.
George piloted the No.31 to the seventh-fastest lap in practice at 51.574 seconds (185.675 mph). He completed 16 laps during the session.
"The Chevy power is obviously, really good today," said George. "The RCR No. 31 guys did a really stellar job preparing that car from when we tested here to now. We were a top-five car for pretty much the whole practice until some guys drafted there at the end. It felt good to have a top-five car all afternoon. And we will go out to qualifying feeling real good."
Tim George Jr. prepared for the afternoon Menards Pole Qualifying Presented by Ansell session with the pole award in his sights.
The New York, N.Y. native will make his return to Talladega Superspeedway from the fourth position and set his sights on a win in his No. 31 RCR machine from his second row starting spot. George clicked off a career best qualifying effort, turning in a lap of 51.514 seconds (185.891 mph).
"The Chevy power is definitely good and I think we have the most powerful motor RCR has ever put out," stated George. "It is an honor to be driving that (the RCR motor) here. Hopefully we will be able to celebrate in victory lane in tomorrow's Talladega ARCA 250."
Friday's 94-lap Talladega ARCA 250 will be televised live at 4:00 p.m. CDT on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring and radio broadcast through the ARCA Racing Network at arcaracing.com.
