Jimmy Phelps Heads to Super DIRTcar Series Season Opener at Hagerstown Speedway
Baldwinsville, NY native Jimmy Phelps will be racing in the Super DIRTcar Series season opener this Saturday, March 27, at Hagerstown Speedway to officially start the 2010 season. Phelps has raced at the Maryland track several times in the past, but this will be his first time racing there with the newly-formed Heinke-Baldwin Racing (HBR).
HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY - This will be Phelps' first time racing at Hagerstown Speedway since March 2007, as the races there were not rescheduled after being rained out in 2008 and 2009. In his last race at the track, Phelps finished in 12th place in the No. 98H.
2010 PLANS - Phelps, a dirt track veteran, will run the full 2010 Super DIRTcar Series for HBR in the No. 98H sponsored by Wave Energy Drink. Phelps will also run several local races for his family-owned team, Phelps Motorsports, throughout the season.
2009 RECAP - Phelps finished third in the standings last season running for Heinke's H&H Motorsports. He picked up one win in the Super DIRTcar Series in 2009 when he took the checkered flag at Cornwall Motor Speedway in Ontario, Canada.
DIRTcar NATIONALS - HBR and Phelps last raced in the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Feb. 10 - Feb. 13, 2010. Phelps and the No. 98H HBR team finished fifth in the final Big-Block Modified standings after finishing fourth in the first two features and 13th in the final feature.
Jimmy Phelps Quotes:
ON 2010 SEASON - "The team is really excited about 2010. I think we're going into this season more prepared than we've ever been. The latter half of 2009 was really good for us, and we're looking to carry that momentum into this season which will hopefully help us grab the championship this year."
ON RACING AT HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY - "Hagerstown Speedway allows for great racing, so everybody loves to compete there. Unfortunately we haven't been able to race there the last few years because of weather, so we're really excited that we have a good forecast going into this weekend. We're hoping to race well there and start our season off on the right track."
