Exciting Race Night at Charlotte Checkers Game

Tim George Jr.Mooresville, NC (Jan. 25, 2010) - Activ8 Communications attended the Charlotte Checkers Race Night presented by Autotrader.com on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010. The game at Time Warner Cable Arena matched the Checkers v. Wheeling Nailers. Before the event, an autograph session featured Activ8 clients NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Colin Braun, ARCA Richard Childress Racing developmental driver Tim George Jr., 2-time UARA Series Champion Matt McCall and Team Full Throttle developmental drivers Christian PaHud, and David & Dillon Latour.

The event was a collaboration of the Charlotte Checkers and various drivers and media personalities in the NASCAR and ARCA Racing Series. The Race Night game was the second sell-out of the season for the Checkers, and it made for an exciting night on and off the ice for fans. The pre-game festivities allowed fans to meet and briefly chat with driver and media personalities attending the event. Following the autograph session, fans were even able to sit amongst some of their favorite drivers in the arena.

Working on Colin Braun's crew brought more perks than just being able to have a dream job of working for a NASCAR team. Braun invited his crew members and their families to attend the Checkers game as a "thank you" and a way for everyone to have a good time together outside of the race shop. Displaying Roush Fenway hero cards, Braun signed autographs and snapped pictures with fans.

Tim George Jr. was showcased for the Goodrich Community Spotlight segment during the third period of the game on the jumbo screens. The segment allowed George Jr. to explain his charity involvement with Make-A-Wish Foundation and how he is going to help the foundation make a terminally ill girl's dream come true of seeing snow for the first time.

The night did not end as pleasantly for Matt McCall, however. With fans flowing through the autograph session line for more than an hour, McCall was happy with the turnout and excited for the game to start. Since McCall was approached with the opportunity to go out on the ice between periods to participate in a contest against ARCA driver Alli Owens, he was slightly nervous but prepared to defeat his opponent.

Matt McCall/Colin BraunDuring the third leg of the competition against Owens, McCall took a spill on the ice, hitting his face and cutting it. Being the fierce competitor that he is, McCall continued with the contest for the last segment and finished as if he had not just fallen in front of a crowd of people, not to mention injuring himself! After a four-hour hospital visit and 11 stitches later, McCall was all patched up and left with some bruising on his face and his ego.

"Everyone has been kidding me saying that I need to stick to the race track and stay off of the ice," said McCall. "I was kind of embarrassed falling in front of all those people, but it's definitely a good story to tell in the garage."

Although Team Full Throttle drivers PaHud and the Latour brothers were excited to meet fans at the event, the highlight of their night was being able to sit next to NASCAR veteran driver Michael Waltrip as he was first to lead off the autograph session table.

Encompassing diehard hockey fans, first-time hockey attendees, and excited children, the Activ8 crew and their family & friends had a great time interacting with fans, drivers, and each other at the event.

"I really hated that Matt fell on the ice, but other than that, it was a fun time for everyone," said Activ8 CEO, Mike Calinoff. "I hope Activ8 is able to attend more events like this. The Checkers really put on a good show and pulled out the win."
