Lofton planning back-to-back wins this weekend in Pocono
July 29, 2009

A week after dominating the race at Berlin for his second win of the season, California native Justin Lofton is hungry for his third visit to victory lane this Saturday at Pocono Raceway. Not only would back-to-back wins be a nice way to enter a three-week break from ARCA RE/MAX Series competition, but it would also be a bit of redemption on the 2.5-mile triangular shaped track.

In June Lofton’s Eddie Sharp Racing team suffered a setback under the hood of their No. 6 Toyota, forcing Lofton to miss much of practice while the team swapped out engines. Coincidentally, rain knocked out qualifying, handing Lofton the pole position based on the point standings.

He went on to lead 18 laps of the 80- lap race before Sprint Cup Series rookie Joey Logano flexed his muscle for the win. Lofton settled into the second position at the finish.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get much practice after the engine problem but we had a good car. If we would have been able to get a few more laps in practice, we might have been able to figure something out to get up there and battle at the end,” Lofton said.

This weekend Lofton will be wheeling the same car that he drove during the tour’s first stop at Pocono. It most recently ran at Kentucky Speedway, finishing third.

“Pocono is very different than a lot of the other tracks that we race on. I’d love to get a win there. We have the momentum after the weekend that we had at Berlin, the guys are pumped, and we have a good car,” Lofton added.

Live coverage of the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 can be seen on SPEED at 1 P.M. on Saturday, August 1st.
